From Death Sentence to Miracle: How Our Dog is Defying Osteosarcoma with Alternative Medicine

We were given the news that all dog owners fear on 12/21/2022! It all started when our baby girl Gabby started limping one day and by the next day she couldn’t put any weight on her front leg at all. The poor girl was in so much pain. We thought maybe she hurt it playing with her best friend Goose or one of the goats head butted her.

No, Goose is not a goose or a badass navy pilot. His sisters name is Viper, just a little Top Gun theme going on. Goose is our mountain Boerboel. Anyway, Gabby is also a Boerboel. She had a really rough start in life and was rescued by her breeder. We then gave her the forever home that she truly needed. She’s smaller than most Boerboels due to how she was treated and the lack of care. We nicknamed her “little nugget”. She was forced to live in a wire cage outside with no tray on bottom! Could you imagine that? Why do people do that? I will never be able to wrap my mind around why anyone would abuse animals. Even after her abuse, she is so loving and full of spunk! She has brought us so much joy!

We ended up taking her to the vet for X-rays. The vet came in the room and didn’t tip toe around the diagnosis at all. He moved her leg around for a couple seconds. She has osteosarcoma! “But we will get an X-ray to verify”. What? No! He had to be wrong! We just didn’t understand how this could happen! You’re going to die, but Merry Christmas!

Our vet wanted to amputate the leg before it metastasized into her chest. If it were to metastasize she was goner for sure. We needed to think about what to do. Her life depended on our decision. We were sent home with prednisone along with her life sentence.

Over the next week or so, we were already planning her end of life. This is how fast the cancer moves. She was given 4-6 months without amputation and up to year with amputation. Maybe! But, we had to do something to try and help her out. We took the deep dive into osteosarcoma treatments focusing on an alternative approach.

While we we’re doing our research, we knew we had to boost her immunity to help her fight for her life. We started with bee propolis and golden seal.

We came across a beautiful story of a dog that beat osteosarcoma with a protocol from Australia. This protocol has many herbs formulated for treatment. It included pine bark, bladderack, elecampane, equisetum, golden seal, rose hips, wormwood and much, much more. You can find the protocol at McDowells Herbal on line. You’ll want the Osteosarcoma Support, Conditioning Mix, Maritime Pine Bark and Colloidal Silver. We make our own Colloidal Silver at home, so that saved us a little money.

We received our order within a week and it came with instructions. We started it right away. We then added golden paste, which is made at home with coconut oil, turmeric and fresh ground pepper. It’s also highly recommended to feed your dog a raw diet. Cancer thrives with carbohydrates and sugar. Plus, kibble is so bad for dogs in our opinion. Gabby was already on a raw diet, so she was one step ahead. Good girl!

Then we added THC oil, a 7 mushroom blend and turkey tail. The blend has turkey tail but we wanted to hit her with more. Mushrooms are absolutely amazing! They have so many health benefits, we really encourage you to research them.

At this point, our little nugget was doing really good with no signs of declining. She was putting weight on her leg again and her pain is being managed. Her appetite was spot one, she plays with her toys and wants to play with Goose. We couldn’t let her overdo it though, we were afraid of her completely blowing out her elbow.

Wow! The rabbit holes you go down when researching alternative medicine! We then came across the story of Joe Tippens. He was given 3 months to live due to small cell lung cancer and he cured his cancer with fenbendazole and a few other alternatives. Fenbendazole is found in the dog dewormers from Safe-Guard and Panacur C. Joe has since changed some things in his protocol due to the research that he and team does. His protocol has saved a lot of people and pets from this evil thing called cancer. I highly recommend reading his blog linked above.

Yep! You guessed it! We added Joe’s protocol right before Gabby’s second vet visit at the end of February.

The visit was nerve wracking to say the least. We were afraid it had metastasized. However, the vet could not definitively say if it had metastasized into her chest. He saw a shadow but nothing concrete. You can see the visit here, it starts at the 8:30 minute. That was great news in our eyes considering how aggressive this cancer is. There was more damage to her elbow from the cancer eating her bone. He did say the cancer was progressing slower than he expected. He also said we should start weaning her off the prednisone due to the long term affects.

The vet visit confirmed we were on the right track, but we needed to be even more aggressive with her treatment. We decided to up her dose of fenbendazole from once a day to twice a day. We also made a comfrey salve for her elbow by infusing the comfrey in tallow and castor oil. Comfrey is also known as the “knit bone”. It’s an excellent plant with a long history of use in treating cuts, abrasions, bruises, torn ligaments, tendons, and broken bones. Tallow is a good source of vitamins A, D and E, and castor oil penetrates deeper than any other oil. By adding castor oil, we’re hoping it will pull the comfrey where we need it to go.

As of today, 9/3/2023, our little nugget is doing really good. She is now over 8 months since she was given her death sentence and still no signs of decline. Her appetite is good, energy level is good and is happy like a dog should be. She loves going outside and getting a dose of vitamin D by laying in the sun, going down to the creek and playing with Goose the mountain Boerboel.

The only thing we’ve added just recently is Milk Thistle for liver support. When cancer dies off it can accumulate in the liver and cause damage.

We are extremely blessed for ever day that we get with her and will continue to do whatever we can to help her survive this horrible, evil and cruel thing called cancer. We hope our story will help other people and/or fur babies with cancer. There are answers out there. Research, research and research. It also helps to find a community of people online that have survived. Stay positive and fight like no tomorrow!
